This is not a glossing over of subjects like a ‘pop’ TV documentary sanitized by and for the Orthodoxy. If you want to open your mind and truly and understand, finally and for real, what Quantum Physics is, where it came from, how the idea that our ’consciousness paints the universe into being’ came to be, how it relates to these other subjects, that requires a certain level of effort on the part of the reader, a small challenge but is certainly not written above the intellect of the average layman. The math presented is at a high-school level. Written by a Physicist whose expertise spans a wide range of fields, from Neuroscience Research to philosophy and religion, and who has also experienced multiple medically documented NDEs, the book proves mathematically that reality, the Universe as we perceive it, can only exist interdependent with consciousness. Reviewing Quantum Physics from its founders’ definitions up to the latest research in the field, Bray explains in detail in language every layman can understand how we interact with, manipulate and define the Universe, ultimately how we “paint the Universe into being”, to use Bray’s own syntagm. He substantiates his theory with most logical arguments and hard data which have been proven correct throughout a century of quantum research. After disproving beyond any reasonable doubt the world view according to which consciousness is an artifact of the physical brain, by using experimental data and conclusions independently verified by leading researchers worldwide, Bray describes how consciousness creates the physical universe, how it is mathematically impossible that consciousness can be finite, and that the universe is. His conclusion that consciousness is unique for each individual is a natural outcome of his scientific, physics-based argumentation, as is the evidence that consciousness must be infinite and eternal in order to exist. We are perceiving this short, finite, physical life, while at the same time existing in an infinite domain, unaware of it, because we are focusing on this finite Universe as a mere perception. Bray’s purpose is not to “prove” God, but to show that each of us is a unique individual consciousness that exists beyond space-time, for infinity. He goes even further to identify the truths that have been enduring and immutable throughout centuries in philosophy and religion, by distilling them from myth and dogma. And by doing this, he dismisses many paradoxes in physics, religions and philosophy. Bray succeeds in convincingly intersecting science and spirituality and proving that, contrary to cognitive beliefs which are prone to constant change, Faith is an immutable spiritual state. And he should know since he has studied it not only as a physicist and neurosciencist, but has also experienced NDEs first-hand, through recurrent cardiac arrests due to a severe medical condition that brought him repeatedly to the brink of death. Thus, the NDEs are described from the perspective of a rigorous scientist who refrains from including any biased, subjective description of them. Although it covers a whole century of Quantum Physics research and data, providing the first working definition for consciousness that is consistent with the formal definitions of Quantum Physics, as well as the philosophies and religions of Man, the book uses terminology and math that is within reach of lay readers. The arguments in Physics, religion, and philosophy have raged on for centuries without this simple, central, required definition. His arguments are unambiguous, devoid of metaphor or uncertainty and the book is by no means an ideological argument or exploration, although it is at odds with almost everything written to date; Bray’s claims are substantiated with solid mathematical axioms and are not open to speculation. All moneys go to the ASPCA and local dog shelters.

Your consciousness paints reality into being. That is the core idea on which William J Bray bases his life philosophy and his book. This idea is an interpretation of quantum mechanics, the physical science which underlies almost every modern technology.Quantum theory is a puzzle. It makes predictions which sound crazy, but always turn out to be right. The mathematics is clear and unambiguous, but at an intuitive level the theory is completely baffling. No one claims to really "understand" it. Not a year passes without another major international conference on the interpretation of quantum mechanics. After 70+ years, we are still debating.
Central to any workable interpretation is the role of observation, or measurement. Anything we do not pin down by observation remains in a blur of unresolved possibilities. Measurement causes the blur to "collapse" into the definite outcomes we see in experiments. Exactly how this works is an enduring puzzle. The observer is crucial. But must the observer be a conscious human mind? Or will a device such as a computer or a piece of photographic film do the job? And what of Schrodinger's cat? Is she an observer, able to register her own life or death - or merely a part of the experimental apparatus?
William J Bray argues for the central role of consciousness in shaping reality. He argues this with great conviction, if with somewhat less scientific rigorousness. In the physics community, some will accept the idea as taking the Copenhagen interpretation to its logical conclusion: others will reject it as crossing the boundary into metaphysics and mysticism. Even to the most skeptical, however, Bray's scientific thinking demands respect. This book is not the usual nonsense from religious mystics who pepper their writing with science buzzwords to give an appearance of credibility. Bray is a working scientist with a sound mastery of his material.
Bray is worried by infinities. He is not alone in this. Georg Cantor (1845-1918), the father of Set Theory, was driven insane by trans-finite numbers and the paradoxes they generate. For Bray, the fact that our universe is finite, having existed for only 13.8 billion years, is seriously incompatible with infinities associated with our human consciousness. He concludes that consciousness is not a mere function of the brain, as neuroscientists claim, but instead is a primary entity. This position, known in philosophy as "Idealism" has a long history, tracing back to the Ancient Greece of Plato and Aristotle, with various aspects explored by more recent icons such as Descartes, Schopenhauer and Fechner. Though most physicists would reject it out of hand, Bray's idea is closer to the panpsychism implied by the informational interpretation of quantum mechanics than it first appears. At the very least, it deserves careful thought.
Near Death Experiences feature prominently in the book. Although the author does not burden the reader with much of his own medical history, Bray's insight into the topic must have been shaped by his suffering the condition known as LQT3, where a gene mutation affecting ionic currents in the heart leads to repeated cardiac arrests. The tunnel vision characteristic of failure of blood circulation to the brain is interpreted as a space-time distortion, an interpretation which Bray admits is highly speculative, but fits within the overall framework of his ideas.
Religious people will find this book inspiring, but probably not understand much of the physics. The scientifically literate may be repelled by the seemingly outrageous nature of the author's claims. This reviewer's advice is to persist. There are many thought-provoking ideas here. If the author is correct, nothing about our reality is quite as it seems. Even if he is wrong in his conclusions, the rewards for wading through this lengthy and somewhat rambling work are rich indeed.

Quantum Physics Near Death Experiences Eternal Consciousness Religion and the Human Soul William Joseph Bray 9781478176435 Books Reviews
This is a book that every thinking individual should get. In my opinion, this is a book that should be rated higher than any other book in existence, The Holy Bible included...Period!...William Bray ties together many things that are worth talking about in a sensible manner using credible science (quantum physics), free from the emotional fixations of religious dogma, and makes it possible for the reader to ride along on a profound sense of connection to not just the Universe, but beyond and into the realm of pure indestructible consciousness....into the very heart of our soul and into our personal search for truth and purpose of being. The author dramatically answers profound questions about humanity's true nature (with the help of the reader's own imagination), and does so in a simple straightforward way. Yes, it does require the reader to think objectively, but it skillfully manages the task by giving powerful incentives to do so from the start....If you are thinking about getting this book, do so right away. I have the kindle version and obviously the real value of this publication goes way beyond the price required to get it...It gave a confirmation of many things I have thought about from a scientific approach. So I recommend that even if you consider yourself not well "qualified" in science or math, this book will likely grab you anyway... So grab a copy while you can, and sit back for many hours of eye-opening comfort in finding out a lot more about who you are and why you are at any given location at any given time.
It Took me a while trying to decide if this Bray is a genius, a loon, or both. I can't give a final answer because i'm just 26% of the way through it but he definitely is not crazy. This is about the 7th or 8th book on Physics that I have read so far and for someone like me who absolutely refuses to learn the maths he seems to come the closest to what I experience, perceive, and understand.. His descriptions tho admittedly wordy are more easily followed than other writers on the subject. I think I understand the experiments better than ever before and the inclusion of art and poetry add much to what can, at least in parts, be a dry subject. It is definitely worth a read if what you are looking for is the final convergence of science and spirituality. Just take note, it will consume many hours..
This edit comes a month or so later. Finally finished it. The last part of the book I admit I just skipped through. Not enough Maths to deal with it. HOWEVER, the center of this book will be engraved in my heart forever. Much of it has to do with the death of his beloved dog and having lost mine recently I was in tears through much of the reading. There is a lot of fascinating reportage of NDEs and I have one the author might like to add his collection. Where the book may seem overly focused on death, that is the vehicle for his exploration of the connection between 'this world' and the Source. I agree with the other glowing reviews of this book which describe it better than I seem to be able to, and I thank Mr Bray, or whatever his name is, from the bottom of my heart.
